Quilotoa circuit

Discover one of Ecuador's most breathtaking landscapes on this full-day excursion to Laguna del Quilotoa, a spectacular volcanic crater filled with sparkling turquoise waters that change color depending on the sunlight. This tour will take you along the picturesque Avenue of the Volcanoes to an altitude of 3,914 meters, where you will find this natural wonder considered one of the most beautiful crater lakes in the world. During the tour, you will pass through traditional Andean villages and páramo landscapes that capture the essence of rural Ecuadorian life. You will have the opportunity to descend to the edge of the lagoon, walk along the trail that surrounds the crater, or simply contemplate this surreal landscape from the viewpoints.

Departure from Quito

Early pick-up at the hotel and departure southbound along the Avenue of the Volcanoes. During the trip, views of Andean volcanoes and rural landscapes of the Ecuadorian Sierra.

Stop at Pujilí or Saquisilí Market (optional depending on the day)

Brief stop at a traditional indigenous market if the tour coincides with market days (Thursday or Sunday). Observation of local commerce and the vibrant colors of Andean products.

Stop in Zumbahua

Visit to the small town of Zumbahua. Technical stop and opportunity to observe the daily life of local indigenous communities. Gallery of naive paintings from Tigua (paintings on sheepskin with colorful Andean scenes).

Arrival at Quilotoa

Arrival at the edge of the Quilotoa crater (3,914 meters above sea level). First breathtaking view of the turquoise lagoon in the volcanic crater. Time for photographs from the upper viewpoints.

Activities in Quilotoa

Descent to the edge of the lagoon (30-40 minute descent along a volcanic sand trail, 1.5-2 hour walk back up or possibility of renting a mule for the ascent - additional cost).

Lunch

Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the crater. Sample typical Andean dishes such as potato stew, chicken soup, or trout.

Free time

Last chance to take photos, buy handicrafts (Tigua paintings, woolen fabrics, handmade jewelry), or simply contemplate the landscape from different angles as the light changes the color of the water.

Start of the return trip
